Luca Scalera has played for his hometown Parma club. He debuted in 2006 and was clearly not ready (4 for 38, 2 2B, 3 BB, 12 K). In 2007, he hit .228/.348/.246 then fell to .108/.265/.183 with 32 K in 93 AB in 2008. The next year, the youngster put up a .188/.278/.250 line with 23 whiffs in 64 AB. In 2010, Scalera improved to .253/.368/.304 and fielded .935 at third base. He backed up MVP Orlando Muñoz. In the 2011 European Cup, Scalera hit .278/.350/.611 in the Parma round so the hosts could advance to the Final Four. One of his hits was a big one - a solo homer to break a 9th-inning 4-4 tie with the Rouen Huskies.
