Biographical Information[edit]

First baseman Lou Ott spent five years in the minor leagues, playing from 1945 to 1949.

He began his professional career as a 20-year-old in 1945, hitting .284/.394/.371 with 131 hits, 82 runs scored and 23 stolen bases in 135 games for the Zanesville Dodgers. He also pitched in seven games that year, going 1-0 with a 1.609 WHIP. He was 4th in the Ohio State League with 83 walks. With Zanesville again in 1946, he hit .318/.423/.435 with 149 hits, 25 doubles and 12 triples in 131 games. He stole 23 more bases, had 90 runs, 90 RBI and 83 walks. He tied for 4th in the league in triples. He was then drafted by the St. Joseph Cardinals in the class-C phase of the 1946 Rule V Draft.

He split 1947 between the Carthage Cardinals, St. Joseph Cardinals and Fresno Cardinals and hit a combined .284 with 116 hits in 114 games. With Carthage again 1948, he slumped to .204 with 46 hits in 64 games. He rebounded a bit in 1949, hitting .264 with 107 hits in 116 games for the Iola Indians, but that would prove to be his final season.

Overall, Ott hit .279 with 584 hits, 84 doubles, 37 triples and eight home runs in 560 games over five seasons.
