Biographical Information

"Lou North, a right-hander for the St. Louis Cardinals, was the first to go on relief as a long and steady custom. . . with forty appearances in 1921 . . . North's record stood until Marberry . . . became exclusively a rescuer in fifty-five games the next season." - from an article in the February 1950 issue of Baseball Digest

Lou North pitched seven seasons in the big leagues. After cups of coffee in 1913 and 1917, he came back in 1920-24. He led the league in Games Finished and saves in 1921, and in pitching appearances in 1922 when his record was 10-3.

Lou was with Omaha in 1915-16, going 16-8 in 1916. He was with Milwaukee during most of 1917-20, and pitched for Dallas and Fort Worth in 1924-26. The 1925 Fort Worth Panthers were one of the great minor league teams, going 103-48.

He was born in Elgin, IL and played baseball for Elgin High School in 1909-10. He is a member of the Elgin Sports Hall of Fame.
