Biographical Information[edit]
Lou Kolls played in the minor leagues from 1916 to 1922. He was a first baseman, catcher and outfielder. He both began and ended his career with teams in his native Rock Island, IL, the Rock Island Islanders, in the Three-I League in 1916 and the Mississippi Valley League in 1922.
In 1925, he began a professional umpiring career in the Mississippi Valley league, then moved to the Western League in 1927 and the Pacific Coast League from 1928 to 1930. In 1931 and 1932 he worked in the International League, then began working in the American League in 1933 until the end of the 1940 season. He was assigned to the 1936 All-Star Game and 1938 World Series.
Tragically, Kolls and four other persons were killed on February 23, 1941, in a head-on collision near Hooppole, IL.
