Biographical Information[edit]

Poor Libe Washburn pitched four games in the majors and lost all four of them. However, as a hitter he did better, hitting .259 in 14 games.

He had been a star pitcher for Brown University, leading the team to a second-place finish in 1900 in some sort of national championship for college teams, beating both Harvard University and Yale University. Encyclopedia Brunoniana on Baseball.

He was also named to Brown's "all-decade" football team from the 1900-09 decade. He was a class officer at Brown.

The Episcopal Academy at Merion, PA, hired a Libe Washburn as faculty to teach athletics in 1901.
