Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Lew Hill played in the New York Yankees system from 1987 to 1995. He was taken by the club in the 9th round of the 1987 amateur draft, one pick ahead of outfielder Pat Howell. Speedy but a low-average hitter, he hit .196 with 19 steals in 1990, then hit .228 with 36 stolen bases in 1991. In an anomalous season in 1992, he slashed .313/.378/.513 with 15 home runs and 24 swipes -- that was his only season with an average above .280 and a slugging mark above .450. He reached Triple A for the first and only time in 1995, batting .271 in 54 games for the Columbus Clippers. Overall, Hill slashed .244/.328/.377 with 120 stolen bases and 591 hits in 705 games over 9 seasons.

He also played for the Canberra Bushrangers in the Australian Baseball League.
