Biographical Information[edit]

Les Treitel was a replacement umpire in the National League in 1978 and 1979. The first year, he worked one game on August 25th when the regular umpires staged a one-day strike to gain recognition for their union. When they walked out again for a prolonged period at the start of the following season, he worked another 10 games. All of the games he worked were in his home town of Cincinnati, OH.

Treitel had some minor league umpiring experience prior to his work in the majors. He first started off in the Appalachian League in 1969 and 1970, then worked in the Midwest League in 1971-1972, and the Western Carolinas League and the Carolina League in 1973.
