Biographical Information[edit]
Leroy Boyd was a minor league player and college coach.
Undrafted out of college (where he played alongside J.R. Richard), Boyd signed with the Washington Senators. He struggled with the 1971 Geneva Senators, with as many errors (3) and passed balls (3) as hits (3). He was 3 for 32 with 6 walks, 18 strikeouts, 4 runs and a RBI. Back with Geneva in 1972, he hit .200/.341/.400 with 15 runs and 12 RBI in 28 games, striking out in 33 of 75 AB. He fielded .965 with 10 passed balls. He finished his pro career with a .168/.315/.308 batting line in 44 games and a .963 fielding percentage. He returned to his alma mater as assistant coach then went 266-153 as head coach from 1977-1984. His products included Trent Hubbard and Reggie Williams and the school won two Southwestern Athletic Conference titles.
