Biographical Information

Third baseman Leon Carter spent 10 years in the minor leagues, playing from 1949 to 1952 and from 1954 to 1959. Beginning his career at 17 years old, he spent most of his career in the New York Yankees system. He spent part or all of four seasons at Triple A, but never reached the majors. He was signed by scout Spud Chandler for the Yankees.

In his second campaign, 18-year-old Carter hit .326 with 16 home runs in 122 games for the La Grange Troupers, and two years later, he hit .321 with 34 doubles in 133 games for the Norfolk Tars. He led the Piedmont League with 168 hits that year. Carter hit .345 in 80 games for Fort Lee in 1953 while in military service, then returned to pro baseball in 1954 and reached Triple A for the first time in 1955. He had one last hurrah in 1957, hitting .301 in 125 games for the New Orleans Pelicans.
