Biographical Information[edit]

Leigh Godfrey has been an outfielder for the Australian women's national team.

Godfrey played softball, Australian Rules Football and swimming in high school. She was MVP of the 2005 Australian Under-16 Championship. She was on the Australian squad that won the bronze medal at the 2014 Women's World Softball Championship. She was 2 for 15 with a double, five walks, five runs and a RBI in the 2014 Women's Baseball World Cup but came up biggest in the Bronze Medal game. Hitting leadoff, she came to bat in the bottom of the 5th against Canada's Autumn Mills, 1-for-13 on the Cup and with her team down 2-1. She promptly smacked a double, then scored on a Shae Lillywhite single to tie it. In the bottom of the 7th, she faced Mills with Bronwyn Gell on first, no outs and the 2-2 score still intact. She hit into an error by Mills; Gell wound up scoring after a Lillywhite single and a walk to Christina Kreppold to give Australia the Bronze Medal. Godfrey thus became the first player (regardless of gender) to win world championship medals in both baseball and softball.
