Biographical Information

Lee Stine pitched four years in the majors while he was young, finishing up with the 1938 World Series winning 1938 New York Yankees, for whom he pitched four games at age 24. His ERA that year with the Yanks was 1.04. He did not pitch in the Series.

His lifetime major league batting average was .300, with an OBP of .400.

He played for the San Francisco Seals before coming to the majors at age 20 with the 1934 Chicago White Sox.

He had injury problems in the majors, and eventually returned to the minors. He was 11-8 for the 1938 Newark Bears who won 104 games, and he was in the Pacific Coast League in 1940. When PCL rosters were pared-down to 20 players in 1942, Stine pitched and played the outfield, hitting .278. He also pitched in the California Winter League in 1937-38 as a teammate of Lefty Gomez and Babe Herman.

After baseball, he served in the Navy in World War II and then was a parimutuel clerk. He lived in Long Beach, CA, Huntington Beach, CA, and Hemet, CA.
