Biographical Information[edit]

Lee Peterson pitched in the minor leagues in 1941, from 1946 to 1954, and in 1956; he spent most of his career in the St. Louis Cardinals system, but played his final year in the New York Yankees chain. He made 9 appearances his first campaign, going 3-1 with a 2.89 ERA in 56 innings for the Decatur Commodores. After spending 1942 to 1945 in the United States Army during World War II, he returned to go 22-13 with 16 complete games, 4 shutouts and 254 strikeouts in 297 innings over 48 games between two clubs in 1946. In 1947, he was 14-13, 3.42 with 24 complete games in 39 appearances for the Columbus Cardinals and in 1948, he went 14-10, 3.16 with 14 complete games in 36 games for Columbus. He pitched for the Winston-Salem Cardinals in 1949, going 19-10, 2.22 with 18 complete games in 41 appearances; back with Winston-Salem in 1950, he went 21-10, 3.06 with 17 complete games in 42 appearances. He fell to 4-4, 4.74 for Columbus in 1951, but rebounded to 19-7, 1.89 with 19 complete games in 37 appearances between Winston-Salem and Columbus in 1952. He moved to the Paducah Chiefs in 1953, going 15-7, 2.70 with 13 complete games in 33 appearances. He led the KITTY League in ERA. Between two clubs in 1954, he was 11-15, 3.52, but still managed 15 complete games. After not playing in 1955, he returned with the Winston-Salem Twins of the Yankees system in 1956, going 8-9, 3.53 in 44 games (6 starts).

Overall, Peterson went 150-99 in 426 games over 11 seasons. He hit .200 in 760 career at-bats, posting a .464 mark in 28 ABs for the Clinton Blues in 1946. He was also a player-manager in 1953, 1954 and 1956.
