Lead
The term lead (pronounced "leed") refers to a couple things in baseball. First, it refers to the advantage that a team has if it is ahead of the other team partway through the game. The team is said to "have the lead". Another usage of the term is when a baserunner moves some distance off the base while the ball is in play. It is said that he "has a lead" or "takes a lead" or "leads off from the base". This is not to be confused with the "leadoff hitter".
