Biographical Information[edit]
Lafayette "Lave" Winham was a hometown boy who pitched one game for the 1902 Brooklyn Superbas. Afterwards he pitched for the 1902 Montreal Royals and then was said to have been affiliated with Newark. In 1903, he appeared again for Montreal, although he was reported to have signed a contract with Columbus, and at the end of the season pitched for the 1903 Pirates. He was in five games for the Pirates with a 2.25 ERA although he gave up a number of unearned runs as well.
Sporting Life also indicated at one point that Winham played for Wilmington in 1902.
Like Lave Cross, his full first name was Lafayette, and Winham was sometimes referred to as Lafayette Winham.
When the Brooklyn team held an old-timers event in 1933, Lafayette, who was from Brooklyn, was on hand. He eventually died in Brooklyn in 1951.
