Lawrence Rhodes
Larry Rhodes signed with the New York Giants out of high school as a shortstop but never played a game for them in the majors after he hurt his elbow so bad that it ended his chances of ever playing again. He entered the United States military in 1943 and flew 27 combat missions with his crew in 1945. He grew up in Far Rockaway, NY.
