Lancaster, PA was home to two different professional baseball clubs during the 1884 year - the Lancaster Red Stockings and the Lancaster Ironsides. The Ironsiders joined the Eastern League several weeks into the year and went 30-31 under manager Robert Clark. Shadow Pyle (19-17, 2.19) completed 35 of 36 starts and tied for the league lead in losses. 1B Jake Goodman led the offense, hitting .345 and slugging .475, scoring 52 runs in 60 games. He led the league with 24 doubles. The next year, they became the Lancaster Lancasters.
