Biographical Information[edit]

Laidel Chapellí played 10 years in Cuba and has since played in Italy. He is the twin brother of Loidel Chapellí.

Laidel hit .284/~.365/.400 in 10 seasons in the Cuban National League. The center fielder stole 97 bases. He married an Italian woman and moved to Italy. In 2004, he played for Ceci Negri Parma and batted .307/.386/.454 with 15 steals in 19 tries. After two years in the lower classifications, he returned to Serie A1 in 2007 and hit .300/.336/.557 for Parma. He was second in slugging to Giuseppe Mazzanti, finished 4th with 6 home runs and drove in 34, second to Juan Camilo. The 35-year-old joined the Italian national team later in the year. In the 2007 European Championship, he produced at a .329/.393/.480 clip for a disappointing Italian team. His 7 runs tied Mazzanti for the team lead. He remained with the club for the 2007 Baseball World Cup, 9 years after his brother had starred in the event for Cuba. Laidel was just 2 for 16 with no walks, extra-base hits or steals in the 2007 Cup.

He moved to Padova in Serie B for 2008. In 2009, he hit .283/.354/.375 for Parma in the Italian Baseball League. He moved to Telemarket Rimini for 2010.
