Lázaro Garro pitched for the Cuban national team in the 1997 Intercontinental Cup, tossing two shutout innings and fanning four while allowing only one hit for the Silver Medal winners. He was also with Cuba for the 1999 exhibition series with the Baltimore Orioles.
Garro pitched for Matanzas for 16 seasons through 2004, going 90-109 with 22 saves in 380 games. He had a 4.63 ERA and walked (730) nearly as many as he struck out (732) in 1,640 1/3 IP while allowing a .290 overall average. He finished up in 2007-2008 with a 0-1, 2.89 record in 7 games.
