Biography[edit]

Pitcher Kyle McCulloch was drafted by the New York Mets in the 2003 amateur draft, but decided to attend the University of Texas. He won 12 games for Texas in 2005, and was named Big 12 Conference pitcher of the year in 2006. Scouts pointed to McCulloch's mastery of the intangibles as one of the young pitcher's best attributes. He was then selected 29th overall by the Chicago White Sox in the first round of the 2006 amateur draft and signed by scout Keith Staab.

The right-hander made his pro debut with the Great Falls White Sox in 2006, his record was 1-1 and his ERA was a mere 1.61 in 6 games. He was promoted to Winston-Salem, where he made 7 starts and went 2-5 with a 4.08 ERA.

Preceding the 2007 season, Baseball America rated McCulloch the 5th best prospect in the White Sox organization. He spent a large portion of the summer with Winston-Salem. After 22 starts with the team, McCulloch sat at an even 7-7 and owned a 3.64 ERA. The White Sox bumped the Texan to double-A at the end of the summer. His record was 1-2 in six starts for the Birmingham Barons, while his ERA rose to 6.41.
