Biographical Information

Kwang-eun Lee was a four-time Gold Glove winner in the Korea Baseball Organization.

When the KBO was formed in 1982, Lee was an inaugural member of the MBC Blue Dragons and hit .313/.356/.465 with 17 steals in 23 tries. He finished 7th in the league in average. He fell to .271/.332/.404 in '83 and was again 17-for-23 in steals. In 1984, he batted .288/.339/.497 with 18 homers and finished 6th in slugging. He won the Gold Glove at third base - in the KBO, the Gold Glove goes to the best overall player at each position, not being solely a defensive award as in Japan or the US.

Lee hit .279/.332/.387 with 20 steals in 28 attempts in 1985 and won a Gold Glove in the outfield. He was the first KBO player to win a Gold Glove at two different positions. In '86, the Seoul native produced at a .304/.379/.480 rate with another 20-28 steal season. He hit 15 homers and led the league with 124 hits. He finished third in average and OBP. Lee won another Gold Glove in the outfield.

Kwang-eun hit .298/.362/.461 in 1987 to place 7th in slugging and take his fourth and final Gold Glove, again as an outfielder. He batted .279/.348/.408 in '88 and .234/.325/.355 in 1989 at age 33/34. The Dragons became the LG Twins in 1990 and Lee hit .286/.375/.408 followed by .271/.354/.365 in 1991, his final season.

Overall, Lee batted .283/.352/.427 in 923 KBO games. He had 90 home runs and 119 steals.

Lee managed the Twins in 2000 and for the early part of 2001. He later became coach at his alma mater, Yonsei University.
