Relief pitcher Kurt Birkins got off to a hot start his rookie year with the Baltimore Orioles in 2006, posting a 1.23 ERA through his first 20 career appearances. Then, in the final 15 games of his first season, his ERA was 14.00. He never recovered from that slump, as his post-hot start ERA was 7.76 in 40 games.
