Biographical Information[edit]

Kris Watts played in the minor leagues from 2006 to 2013.

Watts was twice All-Conference in junior college. Transferring to Santa Clara University, he hit .306 in 2005 as a junior. In his senior season, he batted .332/~.417/.550 and was among the top 10 in the West Coast Conference in RBI (54, 3rd), total bases (116, 4th), homers (9, tied for 5th), doubles (18, 6th), slugging (6th) and walks (29, 9th). He made All-Conference at catcher.

The Pittsburgh Pirates took Watts in the 16th round of the 2006 amateur draft. He hit .200/.281/.225 for the 2006 Williamsport Crosscutters in his pro debut. He was much better his second year in the minors, batting .261/.326/.433 with 25 doubles for the Hickory Crawdads; he was one double behind team leader Kent Sakamoto, who had 150 more at-bats. Kris split 2008 between the Lynchburg Hillcats (.285/.378/.420 in 63 G) and the Altoona Curve (.160/.236/.180 in 17 G). At Lynchburg, he became the primary catcher when Steve Lerud moved to AA.

For the 2009 Lynchburg Hillcats, Watts hit .313/.449/.485 in the first half to help his team win the pennant. He remained steady and was at .317/.439/.452 after 81 games.
