Koichi Kotaka was one of Japan's top hurlers in the 2007 Baseball World Cup. He pitched five games in relief for the Bronze Medal winners, allowing no runs in 9 2/3 IP on 9 hits and one walk; he struck out six. Kotaka formed a strong bullpen duo with Kohhei Hasebe. Kotaka got the win against the Spanish national team in a 4-3 near-upset; his other appearances included facing Gold Medal winner Team USA and the Silver Medal winning Cuban national team.
