Biographical Information[edit]

Kodai Sakurai played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 4 years.

Sakurai was drafted by the Hanshin Tigers in the 4th round of the 2001 NPB draft, and he spent his first five seasons in the NPB Farm Leagues. He hit .281/.346/.469 in 91 games in 2007, but he slumped to .125/.205/.125 in 2008. Sakurai then recorded a .302/.377/.509 batting line with 12 homers in 2009, and he played 89 games with a .255/.327/.403 batting line in 2010. He missed the entire 2011 season due to elbow injury, and the Tigers released him. He then played for the Kagawa Olive Guyners from 2012 to 2013, and he won Best Nine award in both seasons. He also coached the Shiga GO Blacks in 2017 and Osaka 06 Bulls from 2019 to 2020 and managed Osaka from 2021 to 2022.

Overall, Sakurai hit .273/.345/.447 with 225 hits and 30 homers in 4 seasons in NPB.
