Biographical Information

Kit Putnam was an outfielder and pitcher in the New York Mets system from 1966 to 1972. He was taken by the club in the 27th round of the 1966 amateur draft.

He started off as an outfielder. In his second season, he hit .308/.419/.394 in 104 at-bats after posting a .299 batting average the previous campaign. He slumped following that campaign, though he stole 17 and 27 bases in the two succeeding seasons, respectively, and did not regain form until he converted to pitching in 1969. That year, he was used in the outfield and on the mound, hitting .302/.396/.345 in 116 at-bats and going 1-0 with a 1.59 ERA in 16 relief appearances. Pitching full time from 1970 to 1972, Putnam had a good year in 1971, posting a 1.76 ERA in 45 relief appearances. He'd posted a .322 batting average in 1970.

Overall, Putnam batted .273/.351/.326 with 54 stolen bases in 371 games. On the mound, he was 19-16 with a 3.34 ERA in 286 innings.
