Biographical information[edit]

Kevin Russ is a former minor league outfielder who played from 1984 to 1987 in the Oakland Athletics and San Diego Padres farm system.

Russ was drafted in the 13th round of the 1984 amateur draft by the Athletics, and at only 17 years of age, he began his professional career that year. Playing for the Idaho Falls A's in 1984, he hit .255/.298/.339 with 11 stolen bases in 19 tries in 63 games. He made 11 outfield errors. His five triples were two shy of the Pioneer League lead. For the Pocatello Gems in 1985, Russ hit .292 in only 48 at-bats.

He began the 1986 season in the A's organization, playing for the Madison Muskies and hitting .143 in seven at-bats. On April 18, he was traded with Bob Stoddard to the Padres for Rusty Tillman. He finished the season with the Charleston Rainbows, hitting .230/~.316/.330 with 13 stolen bases in 91 games. Overall, he played in 95 games in 1986, hitting .228. 1987 was his final professional season, and he split the year between the Rainbows and Reno Padres, hitting a combined .215 in 251 at-bats.

In a four-year minor league career, Russ hit .236 in 257 games.
