Biographical Information

Kettle Wirts played four seasons in the majors and 15 in the minors, finishing up with teams in Sacramento, CA from 1930-1935. He was player-manager for the Sacramento Senators for part of the 1935 season: the team finished in 7th place in the Pacific Coast League with a record of 75-100.

The book Gold on the Diamond: Sacramento's Greatest Baseball Players 1886 to 1976 states that after baseball he went into wine distribution and real estate.

A variety of major leaguers were given the name Elwood at birth, but none of them is remembered by that name. All ended up with nicknames, such Wirts' nickname "Kettle". Some were named "Woody".
