Biographical Information[edit]
Ken Sears, the son of umpire Ziggy Sears, entered the Navy in November 1943 and was discharged in December 1945. Although he never played for the team, there are photos bearing the stamp of Chicago photographer George Burke that depict Sears in a 1937 Boston Bees uniform. Sears is identified on the backs of these photos as "Kenneth 'Ziggy' Sears, Jr."
His father played in the minor leagues from 1912 to 1928, including ten years with the Fort Worth Panthers, as well as serving as a major league umpire. [1]. Ken was born in 1917 in Streator, IL - Ziggy had played for the Streator Boosters in 1914-1915.
Notable Achievement[edit]
- Won a World Series with the New York Yankees in 1943 (he did not play in the World Series)
