Biographical Information[edit]

Ken Daneyko played over 1,200 games in 20 seasons as an NHL defenseman, setting the New Jersey Devils franchise record, earning him his nickname. He was known for his ability to clear opposing players from the front of his own net, and not for his scoring prowess, which was very limited (he scored just 36 goals in his career). He was a three-time winner of the Stanley Cup with the Devils, and himself won the Masterton Trophy in 2000, an award given to a player who best embodies qualities of perseverance and team spirit.

He signed a one-day contract with the Newark Bears of the Atlantic League in 2003. The 39-year-old was put in the starting lineup at DH on September 13th. He grounded out in his only at-bat before rain ended the game, costing him a chance at officially appearing in a professional baseball game.
