Kazuyuki Hoashi is a pitcher for the Seibu Lions.
Hoashi pitched for Mitsubishi Motors in the industrial leagues. He was a third-round pick of the Seibu Lions in 2001 NPB draft and was 1-3 with a 9.00 ERA that year; he allowed 38 hits and 20 walks in 23 innings. In 2002, he appeared in only 3 games, with a 6.00 ERA. Hoashi improved to 4-7, 4.61 with a save in 2003.
In 2004, Hoashi was 10-3 despite a 4.30 ERA. He tied Daisuke Matsuzaka and Fumiya Nishiguchi for the Lions' lead in victories. He allowed 4 runs in 5 1/3 IP as the starter in game 3 the 2004 Japan Series and had a no-decision in a 10-8 win. In 2005, Hoashi went 13-8 but had a 4.03 ERA and a .285 opponent batting average. He made the Pacific League All-Star team. He tied Satoru Kanemura for 7th in the circuit in wins but was third in runs allowed (81).
Hoashi was less effective in 2006 (5-2, 4.66) and 2007 (2-7, 4.29). Hoashi had a big year in 2008, going 11-6 with a 2.63 ERA. He was 4th in the PL in ERA, 4th in innings (174 2/3), tied for 10th in wins and led in shutouts (3). He made his second PL All-Star team.
Hoashi throws a palmball, slider, curveball, change-up, shuuto and fastball (peaked at 90 mph).
