Biographical Information[edit]

Kazuya Harai has played in Nippon Pro Baseball and for the Japanese national team.

Harai represented Japan in 1990 Asian Games, 1990 Baseball World Cup, 1991 Intercontinental Cup and 1994 Baseball World Cup. The Seibu Lions drafted him in the fifth round of the 1995 NPB draft. Harai only played 4 games in his rookie year, but he soon broke out and hit .268/.369/.409 in a career-high 92 games played. He slumped to .207/.281/.345 and lost the starting spot in 1997. He still struggled in the next two seasons, only hit .217/.294/.272 and .179/.233/.250 respectively. He slightly bounced back and hit .245/.306/.284 in 2001, but his batting line then declined to .182/.308/.182 in the next season. The Wakayama native transferred to the Chiba Lotte Marines in 2002, and he recorded a .250/.320/.409 batting line in 2003. However, he had a collision with Yoshitomo Tani in the next season. Harai suffered a severe facial fracture and his career ended. He was the assist fielding coach for the Lions in 2007.

Overall, Harai had hit .236/.317/.329 in 9 seasons in NPB.
