Biographical Information[edit]
Justin Vaclavik was a closer for the University of Houston in 2005 then was taken by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 7th round of the 2005 amateur draft. He went 0-1 with 9 saves and a 4.38 ERA, fanning 28 in 25 innings in his first minor league stop with the Williamsport Crosscutters. Moving up to the 2006 Hickory Crawdads, the right-hander had a 4-2, 18 Sv, 3.16 year with 59 K in 51 1/3 IP. He tied for fourth in the South Atlantic League in saves. The Pirates assigned him to the Hawaii Winter League that year. His raw numbers were okay for the Honolulu Sharks (12 H, 1 BB, 6 K in 11) but he had an 0-1, 6.55 record in his 11 outings, presumably the outcome of poor luck.
Vaclavik was horrible in 2007, going 2-6 with a 8.39 ERA. He had a WHIP of 2.07.
His pitches are a 90-94 mph fastball and a slider.
