Biographical Information[edit]

The son of Murphy Su'a, Justin Su'a hit .422 and had a 7-0 record in high school, helping his team to a national ranking and winning All-State honors at 3B. He played for the American Samoa national team in the 1999 Oceania Championship (his father was a coach). He was 3-0 with a 3.41 ERA as a freshman at BYU, walking only 4 in 34 1/3 IP. He then spent two years as a Mormon missionary in Nicaragua. He returned to college in 2004, going 2-2 with a 5.09 ERA. He improved to 6-2 with 3 saves and a 4.75 ERA in 2005. He tied for third in the Mountain West Conference in wins, two behind leader Danny Herrera. Battling back injuries, he pitched just three innings in 2006.
