Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Justin Lange was born on one of the darkest days in the USA's history, September 11, 2001. In Competitive Balance Round A of the 2020 amateur draft, the San Diego Padres took him with the 34th overall pick, out of a high school in Texas.

He only played one season in the Padres' system, in 2021, with the ACL Padres for whom he went 0-3, 6.95 in 9 starts, logging 22 innings. On March 22, 2022, he was traded to the New York Yankees in return for 1B Luke Voit, who had won the major league home run crown as recently as 2020, but who had become supernumerary on a loaded Yankees team. He was back in a Complex League that season, now with the FCL Yankees, but had a season not too dissimilar to his first one as he made 12 starts, logged 36 1/3 innings, and finished at 3-1, 6.84. He struck out 51 batters, but walks were a major problem as he issued 30 free passes in addition to hitting 5 batters, leading to 29 runs.
