Biographical Information[edit]

Justin Knoedler was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 5th round of the 2001 amateur draft. He was signed by scout Steve Arnieri and made his pro debut that summer.

Knoedler was a catcher in college until a broken left hand sidelined him in 2001. The Giants liked his arm and moved him to the mound after he signed. As a pitcher for the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes in 2001, Knoedler had a 1.26 ERA in 28 2/3 innings of work. A shortage of catchers caused them to put him back behind the plate in 2002.
