Biographical Information[edit]

Justin Echevarria was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 40th round of the 2010 Amateur Draft from Stony Brook University. He played with the AZL Padres that season and appeared in 4 games where he caught 35 innings and threw out 4 of 10 base stealers. Echevarria struggled on the hitting side though, getting only one hit in 16 at-bats. It was his only season as a professional.

After his playing career ended, Echevarria turned to coaching in a variety of roles. He worked at various training facilities over the years and in 2015 he established the Echevarria Catching Academy. He also spent several years as a college coach. Echevarria was a volunteer assistant coach with the Manhattan College Jaspers in 2014-2015. In the spring of 2015 he took over as pitching coach shortly before the season began when Jaspers' pitching coach Elvys Quezada accepted a job offer from the New York Yankees. Echevarria was an assistant coach at Adelphi University in 2016-2017. He joined Fordham University in the fall of 2017 as a volunteer assistant coach. It is not clear how long he stayed in this position.

According to Echevarria's LinkedIn page, he joined the Toronto Blue Jays organization in April 2021 as a coach for the FCL Blue Jays and as the Complex hitting coach. In 2022, he was one of three hitting coaches with the FCL Blue Jays. He moved up to the Buffalo Bisons as a coach in 2023-2024.
