Biographical Information

Jung-kwon Park is a first baseman. He debuted in the Korea Baseball Organization in 2004, hitting .179/.233/.179 in 24 games as a backup. He played for South Korea in the 2005 Baseball World Cup, batting .268/.375/.488 with a team-high 11 RBI in 11 games but struck out in 14 of 41 AB. He had five of those RBI in a 7-6 win over Team Canada in which he outslugged future major leaguer Joey Votto. The cleanup hitter in the Gold Medal game, he went 0 for 4 with 2 strikeouts against Dany Betancourt and Pedro Luis Lazo in a 3-0 loss to Cuba. In the 2006 Intercontinental Cup, Park batted .185/.267/.444 with 2 homers in 9 games, still being Korea's main first baseman.

Park hit .221/.280/.355 in 208 AB for the SK Wyverns in 2007, when they won the 2007 Korean Series. Jung-kwon batted .260/.319/.378 in 56 games in 2008 as SK set a new KBO record for wins. He rebounded in 2009 to bat .276/.354/.504 with 25 homers. He tied Bum-ho Lee for sixth in the league in homers. He had at least 8 RBI in the 2009 Korean Series, including a 2-run dinger in the finale, but SK dropped the Series in 7 games to the KIA Tigers.

In 2010, Park hit .306/.398/.494 with 18 long balls. He tied Yong-kyu Lee for 8th in OBP. He then batted .294 with a homer and six RBI in four games in the 2010 Korean Series, as SK swept the Samsung Lions. He was named Korean Series MVP.
