Biographical Information[edit]
June Peppas was a pitcher in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League from 1948 to 1954. Peppas was the winner of the last game in AAGPBL history as a Kalamazoo Lassies won the 1954 Shaughnessy Series over the Fort Wayne Daisies.
Peppas was a former softball pitcher that joined the Fort Wayne Daisies AAGPBL was converting from the underhand windmill pitching to overhand. Her unfamiliarity with the style and the ball size showed as the wild southpaw ranked near last in the league in ERA in her first season at 4.62. She had a 39 to 91 K/BB ratio, had a 1.75 WHIP in 113 innings, and posted a 4-12 record for the 53-72 Daises.
Finding more success as a hitter, Peppas later played at first base and in the outfield. In 1949, she was traded to the Racine Belles and moved with the team to Battle Creek, MI after the 1950 season. In 1951, she was again traded, this time to the Kalamazoo Lassies, with whom she would finish her career. She is tied for tenth on the league's all-time batting average leaderboard with a .273 average.
