Biographical Information[edit]
Julio Campos was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 21st round of the 2000 Amateur Draft out of Missouri Baptist University. He played in their minor league system from 2000-2001, reaching High-A briefly in 2001. His primary defensive position was shortstop, though he played third base occasionally. Overall, Campos hit .276/.304/.344 while appearing in 79 games.
After his playing career, Campos joined the Puerto Rico Baseball Academy in 2002 as an infield instructor. He stayed in that role through 2012. In the latter year he also began working with the Colorado Rockies as a amateur scout covering Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. He joined the Rockies full-time in 2013 in this capacity and still works as a scout even when taking on other roles.
In 2018 the Rockies added a second Dominican Summer League team and Campos took over as manager of the DSL Rockies 2 for the 2018 and 2019 seasons. He earned DSL Manager of the Year honors in 2018 for leading his team to a 53-19 regular season record. In 2020-2021 Campos once again focused his attention on scouting exclusively. He returned to coaching as the bench coach for the Spokane Indians in 2022 and ACL Rockies in 2023, and hitting coach of the ACL Rockies in 2024.
