Juan Tellechea pitched for the Spanish national team. He allowed four runs (three earned) in one inning in the 1995 Intercontinental Cup. He had a 10.61 ERA in two games in the 1997 Intercontinental Cup. He was 0-2 with a 16.71 ERA in the 1998 Baseball World Cup, allowing 16 hits in 7 innings. He lost to Japan and Panama. Only José Becerra had a higher ERA for Spain. He tied for 4th in the Cup in losses, behind Byung-hyun Kim, Chun-Yang Tsao and Glen Morris. In the 1999 European Championship, he went the distance in a shutout of the Slovenian national team to beat Luka Kreitmayer. He allowed five hits and one walk while fanning three. In the 2001 European Championship, he was 1-1 with a 5.21 ERA; his 19 innings were second on Spain behind Carlos Ros.
