Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Juan Duran began his professional career in 2008 at 16 years old. He was signed by the Cincinnati Reds.

The low-average hitter struggled to reach the Mendoza Line his first two seasons (even after being named the #9 prospect in the Reds system by Baseball America going into the second campaign), then hit just .244 his third. However, he developed good pop, hitting 16 home runs at 19 years old for the Dayton Dragons in a league, the Midwest League, populated by players nearly three years older than he, on average. He knocked 12 home runs the next year, had 20 dingers the next and 17 in 2014. High strikeout totals followed him, however, and he whiffed 152, 151, 134 and 130 times from 2011 to 2014, respectively. In 262 at-bats in 2015, he had eight home runs and 96 Ks. In February 2016, he was placed on the restricted list after tested positive for three different steroids. He was suspended 80 games.

Through 2015, he had yet to play above Double A.
