Jovanny Sosa is a former minor league outfielder who played from 1997 to 2002 in the Pittsburgh Pirates, Baltimore Orioles and Montreal Expos systems.

Signed as an undrafted free agent by the Pirates on March 14, 1997, he played in the Dominican Republic that season. In 1998, he played for the GCL Pirates and Augusta Greenjackets, hitting .289 with eight home runs and 25 RBI in 32 games with the GCL Pirates and .229 with one home runs and 14 RBI in 26 games with the Greenjackets.

He played for the Hickory Crawdads in 1999, hitting .209 with 22 home runs and 53 RBI. In 402 at-bats, he struck out 145 times. Again with the Crawdads in 2000, he hit .248 with 18 home runs and 65 RBI. He struck out 135 times in 431 at-bats.

Drafted by the Orioles in the AAA phase of the 2000 Rule V Draft, Sosa played for the Frederick Keys and Delmarva Shorebirds in 2001. He hit .179 with seven home runs and 25 RBI in 64 games with Frederick and .274 with five home runs and 18 RBI in 36 games with Delmarva. In the 2001 Baseball World Cup, he was 3 for 9 with a double as a backup RF/DH for the Dominican national team.

He was released by the Pirates after 2001 and was picked up by the Expos. He played for the Clinton Lumber Kings in 2002, hitting .260 with six home runs and 26 RBI in 177 at-bats.

For a while, he was thought to have been born on October 4, 1980.
