Biographical Information[edit]
Josh Bunce played one game in the National League. His entry in Wikipedia (as of 2020) and/or his New York Times obituary indicate that he had been an amateur player with the championship Nassau Club and had also umpired a few National League games also in 1877, some before his appearance as a player. He umpired non-major league games as late as 1897, and worked for the Brooklyn Fire Department. There also appears to have been a player simply referred to as "Bunce" on the Palisade of Englewood club in the late 1860s so there is a possibility that could have been him. There were also two Bunces on the 1865 Hartford Charter Oaks; Fred Bunce and Henry Bunce so it seems likely they may have been relatives.
