Joseph L. Bruno Stadium in Troy, NY, was the home of Troy affiliated baseball from 2002 through 2019. After that and the Coronavirus pandemic-canceled 2020 season, MLB's 2021 Minor League Reorganization eliminated the Tri-City ValleyCats and most other New York-Pennsylvania League teams.

Following their elimination, the ValleyCats joined the independent Frontier League - and, a week later, sued their ex-parent Houston Astros. Later, they and three other teams jointly filed another suit specifically attacking MLB's long-time antitrust exemption. That case was dismissed October 26, 2022, but the judge agreed the teams showed damage and violations that would have been actionable without the exemption. That not only sets up but also provides grounds for an appeal that could ultimately bring down the exemption.[1] The clubs filed their appeal on January 9, 2023,[2], and about six months later the United States Second Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the dismissal.[3] Perhaps tellingly, the appellate court echoes the trial court: "[W]e must continue to apply Supreme Court precedent unless and until it is overruled by the Supreme Court."[4]

Meanwhile, a November 14th trial date has been set in the ValleyCats' original lawsuit against the Astros.

Built by Hudson Valley Community College, "The Joe" then and still hosts HVCC Vikings baseball - which is actually its primary team. The two-tone brick and stone front with twin towers on either side does present a collegiate feel.

"Tri-City" refers to Troy, Albany and Schenectady - aka the New York Capital District. Before the reorganization, both the team locale name and campus location could confuse: Washington state's Tri-City Dust Devils had the same locale name (thankfully, on the other side of the continent) while a much closer one used Hudson Valley, the Hudson Valley Renegades (not so thankfully, less than 100 miles away in not only the same league but the same river valley).

The playpen has squeezed in more than 7,100 - within shouting distance of twice its stated capacity.
