Biographical Information[edit]

Joseph Jenkins pitched in the minor leagues from 1908 to 1915.

He was 13-11 with 22 complete games and just 149 hits and 28 walks allowed (0.804 WHIP) in 219 innings between three clubs in 1908. He led the Eastern Illinois League with 139 strikeouts. Then he went 27-14 in 44 appearances for the Pekin Celestials in 1909; in 365 innings, he allowed 277 hits and 53 walks for a 0.904 WHIP. He tied Homer Hargrove for the league lead in wins. In 1910, back with Pekin, he went 27-8 with a 1.76 Run Average (ERA unknown) in 38 games. His WHIP was 0.848 in 302 innings and he led the league in wins, strikeouts (242) and winning percentage (.771). He was selected by the New York Giants in the 1910 Rule 5 Draft.

In 1911, he was 16-10 in 31 games for the Erie Sailors. Statistics are unavailable for his 1912 season; he might not have played. In 1913, he had a 2.97 ERA in 21 games for the St. Joseph Drummers. With the Bay City Beavers in 1913, he was 23-4 in 28 games to lead the Southern Michigan Association in winning percentage (.852). Back with Bay City in 1915, he went 7-5 in 12 appearances to wrap up his career. The Baseball Reference Bullpen says he managed the club that year to a 31-35 record, however Baseball-Reference.com says it was his brother, Danny Jenkins, who managed the club.
