Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Jose Valdivia began his professional career in 2009 at 17 years old after being signed by the Seattle Mariners as an international free agent. The scouts were Nemesio Porras and Luis Molina.

He began his career with an ERA of 9.95 and a 0-1 record with the AZL Mariners. He didn't pitch after having Tommy John surgery in 2010, had a 2-1, 4.42 mark for the Pulaski Mariners in 2011 and a 0-2, 6.15 record for the Everett AquaSox in 2012. He posted a 2.23 ERA in 32 1/3 innings for the AquaSox in 2013, striking out 36 batters and allowing only 16 hits. The Los Angeles Angels took him in that year's Rule 5 Draft, but released him before he played in their system.

Overall, he was 5-4 with a 4.51 ERA in 42 games (12 starts).
