Biographical Information[edit]

José Ramírez joined the New York Yankees organization in 2008. He first made it to Triple-A in 2013 and returned there for the 2014 season.

On May 18, 2014, the Yankees called the Dominican up from the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders to serve as insurance during a doubleheader under the 26th Man Rule, a special one-day roster expansion that was negotiated into the revised Collective Bargaining Agreement of 2011 and allowed the addition of an extra player for twin bills. Ramírez was not used in either game and returned to Triple-A. He made it back to New York three weeks later, and this got to make his debut, on June 4th, when he pitched two innings in relief against the Oakland Athletics, gave up a run and was charged with a loss. Ramírez has a power arm, having struck out 8.6 men for every 9 innings pitched in his minor-league career. Although he was mainly a starter through 2013, the Yankees focused him on bullpen work starting in 2014. He was 0-2, 5.40 in 8 relief appearances for the Yankees that year, working 10 innings. In the minors, he went 3-0, 1.46 in 9 games; he did not pitch before May and made his last appearance of the season on July 6th, as he struggled with various physical ailments.

In 2015, José was healthy again and made 32 appearances for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, going 3-0, 2.90 with 10 saves. He was also called up to new York a couple of times, getting into three games with no record and an ERA of 15.00. On July 30th, he was traded to the Seattle Mariners along with OF Ramón Flores in return for utility player Dustin Ackley. He pitched five times for the Mariners, going 1-0, 1.57. After the season, he was sent to the Atlanta Braves for future considerations (Ryne Harper was eventually sent).

On September 14, 2016, Ramirez was ejected from a game against the Miami Marlins for throwing a pitch at his opposite number, Jose Fernandez, causing a ruckus. He was then handed a three-game suspension.
