Biographical Information[edit]
José Ceda made 25 appearances with the Florida Marlins in parts of two seasons.
Ceda was signed by scout Felix Francisco for the San Diego Padres in 2004. He had a great pro debut in 2005, going 4-2 with two saves and a 1.50 ERA for the DSL Padres. He fanned 83 and allowed only 38 hits in 60 innings but walked 29. In July 2006, the Chicago Cubs sent Todd Walker to the Padres for Ceda, who had only pitched 83 innings in his pro career to that point. The Florida Marlins then sent Kevin Gregg to the Cubs in November 2008 for Ceda, who missed the entire 2009 season. José pitched 29 innings between the 2010 and 2011 seasons, with an 0-1, 4.66 record. His big league "highlight", if you can call it one, was walking San Francisco Giants reliever Santiago Casilla on four pitches on August 4, 2011, when Casilla struck a Henry Rowengartner in the 1993 film Rookie of the Year stance, barely in the box with no intention of swinging.
