Nicknamed "Cheito", versatile José Oquendo is probably best known for being one of the few players in major league history to have played all nine positions in one season, which he pulled off in 1988 withe St. Louis Cardinals.
After retiring as a player, he was manager of the New Jersey Cardinals in 1998 and was the third base coach for the Cardinals starting in 1999 until he had to miss the 2016 season after recovering from knee surgery. He was absent the following year as well, but returned in 2018, taking his duty as third base coach once again. He was also the manager of Puerto Rico for the 2006 World Baseball Classic and managed them again in the 2009 World Baseball Classic.
