Biographical Information[edit]

Infielder José Cortés played in the minors and for the Mexican national team.

He hit .385 with an OBP around .579 for Mexico in the 1954 Central American and Caribbean Games, fielding .750 at third base; he led the event with six walks and Mexico won Silver. [1] He turned pro that summer but hit only .171/.298/.210 in 38 Mexican League games. He was 4-for-56 with 9 walks and a double for the 1955 Veracruz Eagle, then hit .137/.244/.144 in 75 games for them in '56 and was 3-for-22 with 4 walks in 1957 (he was also 1-for-4 in the Central Mexican League that year). He had hit .137/.258/.155 in the LMB. [2]
